A non-lame sport? = def: Foil and sabre fencing use a lamé jacket to complete the circuit with the conductive region on the weapon and make it clear when a touch has been made on the target area, but epee does not require a lamé because a touch counts anywhere on the body as long as the tip of the weapon is depressed.
(Clue/definition updated and resubmitted because my partner who is a fencer just reminded me that epee is in fact the one type of fencing that *doesn't* use a lamé...)
(If épée doesn't need accents for this competition, as the competition title indicates, then I will argue that lamé does not either!)
